Eco Lodge History
Waters Edge Eco Lodge rests on the shores of Greig Lake, Saskatchewan. The Lodge is the result of the previous owner and founders long-time dream and was the accumulation of her passions; nature, gardening, cooking, entertaining, music, the arts, and culture.
In the spring of 2012, Saskatchewan Parks put out a request for proposals for the development of a fixed roof rental accommodation in the Meadow Lake Provincial Park on the shores of Greig Lake.
Shelly, Waters Edge’s founder, was thrilled to learn in the summer of 2012 that her proposal was chosen. She enjoyed 10 wonderful years here by growing the Lodge’s reputation and brand. In 2022 the property was put up for sale, and that spring, Waterhen Lake First Nation was announced as the new owners.
Greig Lake’s History
Greig Lake is located in the Boreal Forest ecozone of Meadow Lake Provincial Park in Saskatchewan, Canada. Accessible from Highway 224, find Waters Edge Eco Lodge along its south-west corner.
Greig Lake is entirely protected within Meadow Lake Provincial Park and not too far from Waterhen River, Rusty Lake, and Kimball Lake, making it an ideal spot to stay for fishing trips. Several small creeks flow into Greig Lake, with one flowing out to the Waterhen River through a fish trap. The lake is considered part of the Beaver River watershed, which is also a part of Churchill River and the Hudson Bay drainage basin.
Indigenous Experiences
The Waterhen Lake First Nation takes pride in its heritage by following eco-friendly practices and Indigenous traditions to honour the Great Spirit. By staying at Waters Edge Eco Lodge, you’re putting money back in the hands of the people who have protected this land for hundreds of years.
We’re continuously developing new immersive cultural experiences celebrating Waterhen First Nation involving Waterhen Elders, Indigenous culinary, and other culturally significant experiences. Upcoming experiences may include drum groups, dancing, guided tours, water tours, and night sky astronomy tours. Check back often for updates.

Wildlife
Watch for Bald Eagles, Common Loons, Red-necked Grebes and Pelicans and other native birds flying over the lake. White-Tailed Deer are regular visitors to the lodge and if you’re lucky you might catch a glimpse of local Brown Bears, Moose, Lynx or Foxes. If you enjoy fishing, you’ll find Northern Pike, Walleye, Perch and Whitefish in the waters of Greig Lake and surrounding lakes in the park.
ACCOMMODATIONS
The Lodge has lakefront guest rooms with personal decks and decorated indoor and outdoor common areas for lounging and dining. One room is also customized for guests with disabilities. If you’re looking for more privacy, there are three charming lakefront cottages available for rent from May to September.

Trails
Find an abundance of trails close by, with something for all hiking levels. Our property features onsite trails with the options of 1 km, 2 km, 3 km hikes. We also have a short but fun Fairy Trail, affectionately named for all the fairy houses you’ll find as you walk. The nearby Boreal Trail of Meadow Lake Provincial Park spans 135 km with sections of the trail offering great day hikes and breathtaking views of the lakes and forest.
